Poppy Henderson (Pupil Barrister) Guernica 37

Introduction

Poppy commenced her pupillage with Guernica 37 Chambers in Summer 2022 and is to undertake a mixed crime, civil, and international pupillage.

Poppy, as an associate member of Chambers for the past 2 years whilst completing her studies, has played an important role in a number of domestic and international cases, assisting other members of Chambers with both the research and drafting elements of projects and cases.

 

Current Work: 

From 2021 and continuing, Poppy has been a member of the Defence team for Mr. Nasim Haradinaj, currently being prosecuted before the Kosovo Specialist Chamber in The Hague.

Domestically, Poppy is assisting members of Chambers with a number of Public Law challenges brought against the Ministry of Justice on behalf of serving prisoners, and further, Actions Against the Police and other relevant Public Authorities before the County Court, assisting in the drafting of skeleton arguments and the grounds of challenge.

 

Previous experience: 

At the beginning of 2021 Poppy assisted members of Chambers in collaboration with Global Rights Compliance in the production of a legal tool kit for transitional justice in Gambia, drafting significant chapters of the kit and handbook.

Prior to joining Chambers, Poppy has undertaken placements as an International Human Rights Reports Assistant for the University of Nottingham Human Rights Law Centre, and as a Gateway Assessor within the local Citizens Advice Bureau. In 2020, Poppy competed in the world’s largest international moot court competition and gave submissions concerning lethal autonomous weapons and state succession to treaties.

Education: 

Poppy completed her Law with South-East Asian Law LL.B degree at the University of Nottingham in 2020, having spent her third year abroad at the National University of Singapore. Whilst there, she was able to develop her interests in international human rights and public international law further through study of the legal landscape of the South-East Asian region.
